ANNOUNCEMENT - EFFECTIVE APRIL 2008 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Due to landslide damaging a key section of the railway tracks here, the current package has been revised to become an EVEN MORE ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITY! Catch this once in a life time activity where you ride human-powered trolleys on railway tracks to your starting point!!! We don't know of any other rafting destination in the world that does this. The rafting distance has been extended as well. There you have it now: there's rafting activity, wild waters at an outback landscape, sight seeing, meeting indigenous tribes, an off the beaten track adventure that won't repeat itself, a sumptuous BBQ meal, that odd tale that you'd like to tell someone - to sum it up - PRICELESS!

Rate: RM230 per pax. Rate reduces with 10pax and above.

includes all transfer from Kota Kinabalu Hotels, English Speaking Guide, English Speaking River Guide, White Water Rafting Equipment approved by American Coastguard, Standard BBQ Lunch, Trolley Ride (estimate  2 hours from Tenom to Pangi Station),  Insurance.

Itinerary
0715hrs   Pick up from hotel and transfer by coach to Tenom. Tenom is a town located in interior division of Sabah, east Malaysia on the Island of Borneo. The town was formally called Fort Birch in the colonial period.
1045hrs    Arrive at Tenom and proceed to a village near Pangi, get change and get ready for the fun filed thrilled ride by our human powered trolley ride up to Pangi. The thrilling scenic ride will take around 1 hour.
Your luggage will be storing at our van and will be transferred to Beufort Town.
1130hrs    Upon reaching starting point, light refreshment will be served.
You will gear up, have a safety briefing will be given by the river guide
1300hrs    The 30km white water rafting, making it the longest rafting journey in Borneo begins. After the 9th kilometers of rafting which covers seven classes III-IV rapids, a quick stop for a sumptuous lunch at Rayoh Station before continuing the rafting journey down the majestic rainforest of Borneo. Ending point will be at Halogilat then boat ride to Beaufort town.
1700hrs    Freshen up then return by bus/coach to hotel.
End of service.

Padas River Grade I-IV
Padas is a muddy river situated in the interior of southwestern part of Kota Kinabalu that is only accessible by train. The river provides an adrenaline rush excursion covering a distance of 9 kms with 7 exciting and tough rapids! Suitable for individuals 13 years and above.
The journey will first take 1½ hours overland through the beautiful countryside to Beaufort town. From here, the adventure begins with a 1½ hours jungle train ride that tracks along the Padas River giving you a glimpse of the river plus the interiors of Sabah as you pass by old stations, villages and dense jungle. Upon arriving at the starting point, participants will be given a safety briefing before going down the river.
River guides are proficiency in both, Swift Water Rescue Program and White Water Safety. They are certified by the New Zealand Canoeing Association.
 
What do I get to do?

This adventure combines the thrill-spills of  Padas rapids and fantastic historical and cultural journey on an old diesel train through the jungles and passing through little villages. The experience of riding the train is an added cultural thrill. Expect delays as these trains and station masters work at their own pace.

Adventure Rating and Remarks

4 - A whole day's activity filled with whitewater rapids, Sabah's great outdoors,  a rickety train ride and visits to little Beaufort town.
Children aged 12 years old and below are not permitted on this activity. Participants deemed unfit by the guide for the activity or behaving in a manner which may endanger other participants will be prohibited from participating.

Rate

RM TBC per pax - ex-Kota Kinabalu city. Minimum 2pax, however, it may be possible for single traveller as this activity is run daily. *Rate reduces with participants above 4pax.

Add RM25 per pax for pick up at Shangri-la Rasa Ria, Nexus Karambunai, Sabandar Bay Resort, Mimpian Jadi Resort, resorts located at Kinarut. Do check with us if you are planning to stay outside of KK city.

Itinerary

0715hrs Transfer from Hotel to Beaufort Railway Station(distance of  90 km)
0930hrs Arrive at Beaufort Station,
1000hrs  Board train for Pangi Station (39km). Journey will take at least  1 ½  hours.
Stopover at Rayoh  Station for 10 minutes for storing your belongings and change of clothes.
Arrive Pangi Station, Light refreshment will be served. Safety briefing by the guide. Signing of Liability Release form and Rafting commence.
Arrive at Rayoh Station. BBQ lunch will be served.
1700hrs Arrive Beaufort. Return back to Hotel.
1845hrs    Estimated time of arrival at Kota Kinabalu. 
End of service.

What does it exclude?

Digital photos - a river guide will be taking pictures at the rapids and at the end of the event, you will be shown the  action shots and given a choice to purchase a cdrom full of pictures.

What do I need to bring/wear?

Change of clothes, towel, insect-repellant, pocket money, sun-block lotion,  toiletries, personal medication,
Wear quick dry clothing (eg. lycra or 'dry-fit') & strapped sandals, watersports shoes or scuba booties. If needed, wear eye/sun-glasses sports strap.

We suggest to bring a handheld battery operated fan, reading material and drink/snacks for train ride. You may purchase items at Beaufort town. A blanket/jacket to keep warm during returning ride on a/c bus  and train ride. 

Best time to visit

This activity is normally available year round. During monsoon season, floods may occur halting the activity.
