Sungkai river (Class I to III), Sungkai Town, Perak State

Fun day out kayaking in Sungkai River, Perak

Pictures provided courtesy of New Yoong Chee
Sungkai River, approximately 1 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, provides a fun, safe and at the same time, a thrilling experience for individuals wanting to spend a fun day out with friends or colleagues. The recreational trip is suitable for beginners with no or little whitewater kayaking experience, but who are looking for a challenging and fun activity while getting a good workout. Our activity providers will teach you basic kayaking skills and guide you down the river in our two-seater inflatable kayaks. You need to be reasonably fit and not afraid of taking a swim in rapids.

What do I get to do?

You will be using single or double inflatable kayaks which are stable in whitewater and do not enclose the paddler in the boat. The guides will lead you down the river and provide safety support but you have to steer the kayak yourself. As opposed to rafting, inflatable kayaking is for the more adventurous person who wants to gain a skill.
A short driving distance from Sungkai is Sungai Klah Hot Springs Park where you can unwind at the many hot spring pools. The park is well managed and provides private spas for additional fee.
There is also the Trolak Country Resort where you can find a simple a/c accommodation. This resort is popular for teambuilding events.

Adventure Rating and Remarks

3 - For the uninitiated, learning to kayak can be a very challenging experience especially a 2 man kayak. You learn the complexities of reading the river channels, paddling together and steering your kayak. There will be plenty of laughs as you learn to communicate with your partner to get your kayak down the river without flipping over or getting stuck at the rocks.
