ATV Adventures at Kemensah Chalets & Waterfall, Ulu Kelang, Kuala Lumpur
Dreaming of riding a dirt bike but fear of falling? Then learn to ride a Quad-bike or an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) instead and hit the trails with a guide in Ulu Kemensah, within Selangor state.There are only 7 semi-automatic 160cc bikes available at this time with plans to acquire more automatics later. This new adventure will take you into healthy jungles and waterfalls right here within Selangor. Why do i say healthy? Well the last time i walked into the jungle here i came out with 4 leeches. It was only a 15minutes stroll!
These adventures are run by a husband and wife team, Mas Fadzillah and Meliza Hanafi, with the help of several orang asli's (indigenous tribes). If we're not wrong, they could be the only ones still operating the recreational business while others have given up. The cost of maintenance is high since wear and tear is increased with punishment from riders of different skills plus parts have to be imported.
Activities are suitable for individuals 16years and above. *Please note that the trainer will assess your handling abilities before the adventure. You may be rejected for your own safety apart from others. The adventures here are not similar to rides on the beach.
Please make bookings before turning up at the chalet, there are maximum of 7 quad bikes only and their activites are popular. (July 2008 Update: 6 bikes available until further notice)
What do I get to do?
Learn a new skill like riding a quad-bike as well as the safety and precautionary measures when handling one. You get the thrill of riding these rugged machines through dirt and muddy trails then stopping over at a waterfall or a dam to rest and soak in the tranquility of nature. The trainer is a fun and friendly guy who always put safety first.
After the adventure, you will have more confidence riding scooters and motorbikes.

Itinerary
Before the start of each adventure, you will sign an indemnity form before being trained and perform practises for about 20minutes. Before hitting the trails like the Hell's Angel's, you will undergo practice sessions until the trainer is confident with your skills.
Pillion Riders
Guide/Trainer prefers all lead riders to remain throughout the course for all participants safety and to reduce damage to his expensive bikes. The trails are not flat and changing. Due to past incidents, the guide now prefers pillions to remain as backseat riders. On event day, during the training, if the trainer is confident in your pillion's control, he may give his approval vote.
Khamisah Waterfall Adventure (WP/ATVKW) (Beginner's trail)
Although it's suggested as a beginner's trail, it is by no means a simple hay ride. There will be some sections in the journey where you will learn some technical skills and teamwork is essential. There will be a short trek to the pristine waterfall. Leeches welcome you here. Duration 1.5 - 2 hours

This is a very enjoyable trail for those who have some atv experience or are quick learners. There will be certain steep locations which will require self confidence and teamwork. Duration 2½ - 3 hours

Sungai Tangga Adventure (WP/ATVST)
Very hardcore trail which will take you across 4 streams. ATV riding experience is essential. Expect to get wet!!

An overnight adventure suitable for company trip or small group. You will camp by a pristine waterfall and surrounded by bamboo shoots. Start 4pm, Return from campsite 10am following day.

For the more adventurous, below lists 2 locations for offroad 4X4 adventures which bring you into pristine and way off the beaten track surroundings.You can stay with a local tribe and immerse yourself in their culture.

What does it include?

What to wear/bring?
Wear light breathable clothing, a bandana/ hat to hold your hair & sweat, shoes/boots -no sandals/flipflops because your feet is required to change gears, long pants is suggested to protect from scrapes of falls (however, it prevents you from seeing leeches on your legs), bring additional snacks/meals/drinks, a haversack (waterproof is better), raincoat not necessary, insect repellent, sun block, personal medication, please ensure you have adequate personal accident coverage which includes atv.
Please store your valuables safely with you on the ride or in your car.
To prevent leeches on your feet, guide suggests spraying socks/clothing with anti-cockroach spray. Leech bites are harmless. The bite area just gets a little messy since leeches inject anti-coagulant into the bite leaving blood to trickle for shortwhile after they get fed.
Best time to visit
This trip is available all year round. At this moment there are only 7 ATV units so book early to avoid disappointment.
Getting here
Only vehicles up to the size of a van can be driven in. Buses are too big.
In Selangor/Kuala Lumpur, get on Middle RInd Road 2 (which circles the Klang Valley). Look for Zoo Negara signage.
If you are coming from Batu Caves then the Zoo exit is on the left. If from KL/Ampang, you will see road signages for ZOO NEGARA and you will do a U-Turn. Once turned into this road just after the zoo, you will continue down this road, straight into Kemensah Village. There will be several(actually many) road humps and about 3 bridges. Just continue on. (There were yellow ATV signages on the road until recently)
Where there is a fishing pond on the left (not too visible above a hill), you will need to take the road on the right to reach Kemensah Chalet where the ATV HQ is. We suggest to book before going there on your own as this activity is very popular so you might not have anyone greeting you at the HQ or there isn't a bike available when you arrive without notice.
