Diving
Due to the restricted number of divers on Sipadan, Mabul has come into the limelight as one of the best muck diving destinations in the world. The bottom appears bare at first glance consisting of corals, rocks, sea grass and sand.
Adding to this are manmade items such as bottles, cans and sacks. Look a little deeper and you will find home to a wide range of creatures: spike-finned goby, flamboyant cuttlefish, squid, allied cowries, lionfish, snakes, garden eels, mantis shrimps, nudibranchs, seahorses to name a few.
Sipadan is an oceanic island that plunges nearly vertically 600 metres into the depths of the sea creating a ‘wall’ of crevices, balconies and cavities that play host to an astonishing variety of inhabitants. They are all in great numbers due to the constant swirling of nutrients from the sea. There are over 500 species of coral and 3000 species of fish identified to date.

Getting here
The gateway to Sipadan is the sleepy towns of Tawau/Semporna located in South East Sabah, East Malaysia. Tawau is accessible by flight via Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, the capitals of Sabah and Sarawak respectively. Malaysia Airlines (http://www.mas.com.my/) and AirAsia (http://www.airasia.com/), the region’s low cost carrier have daily flights to Tawau. From Tawau airport, there will be a private transfer to Sempoerna jetty, around 75 minutes away. Sempoerna is the launchpoint to Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai and Mataking islands.
Best time to visit
Diving is possible all year round at Sipadan although January and August has rougher weather.
Our Say
This is a highly rated resort with spacious and clean chalets set in a wonderful garden setting. The lush green grounds overlook the sea and beach. Rooms come furnished with writing table, in-house safe, coffee and tea making facilities, and hairdryer. All staff are extremely friendly and the buffet food spread is wonderful. Combine it with the diving at Sipadan and Mabul, this will turn out to be one magical holiday. Recommended.
